Brightsmith are pleased to be representing a climate technology company developing processes to recover and reuse high-value materials from industrial waste, supporting sustainable manufacturing in broad range of sectors, incluing aerospace. We’re looking for a practical, hands-on technician to support the build, commissioning, and operation of an early-stage industrial pilot plant. This is a role for someone who enjoys making things work, installing equipment, troubleshooting issues, and keeping systems running in a fast-moving environment.

Key responsibilities:

Build & Commissioning

  • Install and set up mechanical and process equipment (pumps, pipework, valves, etc.)
  • Support system testing and commissioning activities
  • Fabricate and adapt components such as brackets, supports, and fixtures
  • Work closely with engineers and external contractors during build phases

Operations & Maintenance

  • Operate plant equipment during process trials, monitoring performance and conditions
  • Perform preventative maintenance, servicing, and basic calibration
  • Diagnose faults and carry out effective, root-cause fixes
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organised working environment

Trial Support

  • Prepare equipment and materials for experimental runs
  • Assist with trial execution, including monitoring and data/sample collection
  • Provide practical feedback and observations to support improvements

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow and contribute to safe working practices and procedures
  • Identify and report hazards or issues
  • Maintain clear records of maintenance and plant status

Experience Required

  • Strong hands-on mechanical ability (through experience, training, or apprenticeship)
  • Experience working with industrial equipment, plant, or mechanical systems
  • A practical, problem-solving mindset with a structured approach to fault-finding
  • Comfortable working in a process or safety-critical environment
  • Self-motivated, reliable, and proactive
  • Technical training (apprenticeship, HNC/HND, or equivalent)
  • Experience in process industries (e.g. chemicals, pharma, food & beverage)
  • Exposure to pipework, pneumatics, or fluid systems
  • Basic familiarity with electrical systems or instrumentation
