Mechanical Engineer (MEP Consultancy)

Location: Belfast, Northern Ireland

This role sits within a high-performing MEP design team and supports the delivery of mechanical engineering solutions across a diverse portfolio of sustainable building services projects. You will be involved in all stages of project delivery, from early design through to construction and handover.

The position offers a strong balance of responsibility, autonomy, and collaboration, with the backing of a wider multidisciplinary engineering team across multiple UK and European offices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the design and delivery of mechanical engineering solutions for MEP projects, ensuring quality, budget, and programme targets are met
  • Assist with design development including drawings, reports, specifications, and project documentation
  • Produce mechanical designs, calculations, and tender packages, and support site installation activities
  • Ensure compliance with relevant engineering standards, project specifications, and health & safety requirements
  • Contribute to coordination across multidisciplinary teams including architects, engineers, project managers, and clients
  • Attend client and project meetings, providing technical input and progress updates
  • Support junior team members and contribute to continuous improvement and best practice within the team
  • Assist with resource planning, scheduling, and project coordination activities

Requirements

Essential:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • 3–5 years’ experience in mechanical engineering within a consultancy or design practice
  • Strong understanding of MEP systems and sustainable engineering principles
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and design tools such as AutoCAD, Dialux, and Amtech (Revit experience desirable)
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills

Desirable:

  • Professional membership or working towards chartership with a recognised engineering institution
  • Experience in sustainable or energy-efficient building services projects
  • Exposure to project coordination, mentoring, or resource planning
