Responsibilities
Joint post Consultant Psychiatrist in Psychiatry of Intellectual Disability (ID) (0.4 WTE) & Consultant psychiatrist in Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (Cheshire) service (0.6 WTE). This newly developed full‑time community‑based post covers Wirral and Cheshire West & East. The base for the Adult Intellectual Disability role is at the Stein Centre; the Adult ADHD post covers clinics across both counties. The post holder will provide psychiatric input to adults with learning disabilities of 18 years and older living in Wirral, be a key member of the Community Learning Disability team at Millennium Centre, Wallasey, and conduct psychiatric assessment, advice, and liaison in a variety of community locations. They will carry out assessments of complex cases, support the development of multidisciplinary management plans, and work in close liaison with community health teams, social services teams, provider services, and other statutory and voluntary agencies. The consultant will have access to the adult Intellectual Disability assessment and treatment beds at Eastways and Greenways units and may also access Wirral General Psychiatry beds if appropriate and in liaison with other Consultants.
Qualifications
- MbChB, MBBS or equivalent.
- Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent.
- A CCT in Psychiatry of Intellectual Disability or within 6 months of completing the CCT.
- Registered with the Royal College of Psychiatrists for CPD or willing to apply for such.
- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
- Included on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months.
- Approved clinician status or able to achieve it within 3 months of appointment.
- Approved under S12 or able to achieve it within 3 months of appointment.
- In good standing with the GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice; must have appropriate UK professional registration.
- Doctorate or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management (desirable).
- Additional clinical or postgraduate qualification (desirable).
