Overview
We are looking to appoint a consultant to support our expanding Gastroenterology service. The role will contribute to the endoscopy service (elective and emergency), gastroenterology outpatient services, and in‑patient gastroenterology, including the dedicated gastroenterology ward (A8), outlier ward, and an in‑reach service to the Emergency Department and Acute Medical Unit.
Responsibilities
- Develop a sub‑specialty interest in Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) and manage the EUS service.
- Run the GI ward on a 1 in 11 rota, providing daily ward rounds for seven days.
- Deliver five clinical, face‑to‑face sessions (e.g. 3 clinics and 2 endoscopy sessions) over the remaining 10 weeks of the cycle, attend multidisciplinary team meetings, and supervise middle‑grade trainees.
- Contribute to a 1:13 on‑call rota for out‑of‑hours emergency endoscopy throughout the 11‑week cycle.
- Participate in national gastrointestinal and bowel cancer screening policy, endoscopic accreditation, and training initiatives.
Qualifications & Skills
- Consultant‑level qualification in Gastroenterology.
- Experience in EUS is desirable.
- Ability to develop a sub‑specialty interest in hepatobiliary service.
- Strong clinical, teaching, and research capabilities.
- Commitment to high standards of patient care and continuous professional development.
