We are seeking a committed and proactive Deputy Head of Safeguarding to join our Safeguarding and Wellbeing Team. This is a key role in promoting a safe and supportive college environment, where safeguarding is a top priority for all staff.

The Role

You will deputise for the Head of Safeguarding (Designated Safeguarding Lead – DSL) when required and act as DSL in their absence. You will play a vital role in ensuring students are safe, secure, and supported in line with current safeguarding legislation, including Keeping Children Safe in Education.

Key responsibilities

  • Act as Deputy DSL and lead on safeguarding matters in the absence of the Head of Safeguarding
  • Promote a strong safeguarding culture across the college
  • Provide a frontline safeguarding response, ensuring concerns are managed effectively and in line with statutory guidance
  • Ensure safeguarding referrals are handled, recorded, and monitored efficiently
  • Work closely with the Safeguarding and Wellbeing Team, curriculum staff, and senior leadership
  • Support delivery of the College’s Student Services strategy in line with the Strategic Plan and College values.

The ideal candidate will

  • Passionate about safeguarding and student wellbeing
  • Experienced in working with vulnerable young people
  • Knowledgeable about safeguarding legislation and best practice
  • A strong communicator with the ability to work collaboratively across teams and with external agencies
  • Highly organised, with the ability to manage a varied caseload

In line with Keeping Children Safe in Education, all employment offers are subject to employment checks.
