Head of Design at a Growing Design & Build M&E Contractor – Seeking Principal / Associate Mechanical Design Engineer.

Up to £80k | 5% Bonus + Commission | Travel Paid | Hybrid Working | City of London.

We're working with a fast-growing Design & Build contractor delivering high-quality M&E solutions across commercial office fit-out projects. Established just 5 years ago, the business is already turning over £7‑8m and building a strong reputation in the CAT A & CAT B space.

The Opportunity

This is more than just a senior engineer role – it's a chance to build and lead a design function within a growing contractor. You'll be the go-to technical authority, working closely with project teams and clients to deliver practical, buildable solutions.

Your Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design delivery across multiple fit-out projects.
• Act as the technical lead, troubleshooting and driving engineering quality.
• Take ownership of client engagement and design coordination.
• Manage and mentor a small team of engineers (with plans to grow).
• Help shape and scale the M&E design department.
• Take an active role in developing new business.

What We're Looking For

• Strong background in mechanical building services design.
• Proven experience delivering CAT A & CAT B office fit-out projects.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced Design & Build environment (highly desirable).
• Ability to lead projects technically and commercially.
• Experience managing or mentoring engineers.
• Confidently engaging directly with clients and stakeholders.
