Responsibilities
- Support development of strategy, requirements, specification and standards across the project for fire engineering design, including evacuation, compartmentation, detection and alarm systems, fire extinguishing devices and systems.
- Provide technical expertise and advice relating to fire engineering to both the wider organisation and external stakeholders as required.
- Support in providing technical assurance for fire engineering discipline including safety arguments and technical files to demonstrate compliance with current fire safety legislation and identified standards.
- Support management of interfaces of fire systems with other infrastructure systems.
- Support Qualitative Design Review (QDR) process, detailing specific fire prevention and protection issues and requirements.
- Develop risk assessments in accordance with the Regulatory Reform order.
- Support the delivery of effective Fire and Rescue Service liaison and engagement for all stages of the project (design, construction, operational).
- Engage and consult as appropriate with internal teams impacted by fire engineering design, particularly Infrastructure Management, Railway Systems, Technical Directorates, the asset project and contract management teams.
- Assist in preparation of Emergency Plans and the planning and execution of Live Exercises.
- Maintain expert knowledge of fire engineering, fire life safety and stay abreast of legislative requirements and how standards and best practice support their application.
- Actively promote and embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all work. Support and comply with all organisational initiatives, policies and procedures on EDI.

Skills
- Capable of being a Standard Owner, working under the guidance of the Standard Discipline Owner.
- Provide specialist technical support and leadership on discipline-specific analysis, problem solving and design techniques to project development/delivery teams while knowing when to seek further guidance from other Subject Matter Experts.
- Provide technical, commercial management and leadership skills to support project development/delivery teams, working under supervision of line manager (or delegate).
- Communicate discipline-specific technical ideas to colleagues, based largely on examples of application.
- Apply principles relating to standards, safety and the environment and be able to articulate the rest.
- Apply principles and methods that ensure effective information management, modelling and data security; understand approaches and consequences to data creation, transformation and visualisation and know when to seek guidance from a Subject Matter Expert.

- Appropriate scientific, technical for fire engineering principles.
- Review and select appropriate techniques, procedures and methods for tasks.
