We’re looking for a Development Officer to join our Development Team and play a key role in delivering new, high-quality affordable homes across Cornwall.
Working closely with Development Managers, professional advisors, contractors and internal colleagues, you’ll support the delivery of development schemes from early stages through to completion and post-handover. This is a varied role offering exposure to the full development lifecycle, including scheme administration, handovers, defects management, stakeholder liaison and project support.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience in housing, property, construction or project support who is keen to build a long-term career in affordable housing development.
What you’ll be doing
- Supporting the delivery of development schemes, including scheme openings, handovers and post-completion activity
- Acting as a key point of contact for defects, liaising with developers, residents and colleagues to ensure issues are resolved efficiently
- Providing project and administrative support, including maintaining records, managing data, raising purchase orders and preparing handover information
- Working closely with internal teams such as Property Services, Sales and Neighbourhoods to ensure clear communication and joined-up delivery
- Attending meetings with external partners, consultants, contractors and residents
- Supporting Development Managers with appraisals, reporting, cashflows and scheme monitoring (with guidance and oversight)
- Contributing to continuous improvement and ensuring accurate records for audit and compliance purposes
- Travel across Cornwall and occasional meetings outside normal office hours
Essential
- A Level (Level 3) qualification
- An understanding of social housing and the UK housing context
- Experience supporting projects or operational processes in a housing, property, construction or similarly regulated environment
- Strong organisational skills with a methodical approach and attention to detail
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to work proactively, manage your own workload and contribute effectively as part of a team
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel
- Ability to travel independently across different locations
Desirable
- A Level 5 qualification (HND or equivalent), or training in a housing, construction, planning or development-related discipline
- Experience within social or affordable housing
- Exposure to development schemes, defects, handovers, appraisals or customer/resident liaison
- Knowledge of development finance, risk, regeneration or value for money principles
- Evidence of continuous professional development
