Job Description:

Overview

Hinkley Point C (HPC) is the first new nuclear power station to be built in the United Kingdom in over 20 years. HPC’s two EPR reactors will be capable of generating 3.26 GW of secure, low‑carbon electricity for 60 years, enough to power around 6 million homes. In addition to the project’s clean‑energy benefits, HPC will create thousands of jobs and bring lasting benefits to the UK economy. The Power BI Developer will design and deliver high‑quality Power BI dashboards, semantic models, and data visualisation solutions that support operational and strategic decision‑making across HPC.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Power BI solutions in accordance with the Power BI Governance Framework through workspace strategy and segmentation, role‑based access control model, development lifecycle (Dev/Test/Prod), deployment pipelines and release governance, certification and endorsement standards, metadata, naming, and documentation standards, data source approval and security processes and tenant‑level governance settings.
  • Ensure developed Power BI solutions align with Information Design Authority (IDA) processes, security and data protection standards, regulatory and audit expectations, and produce technical documentation for Power BI models, datasets, and reports to support maintainability and operational support.
  • Platform administration and technical oversight, acting as a senior technical contributor supporting the development and optimisation of Power BI semantic models, reports, and dashboards.
  • Work within established platform standards for workspace usage and structure, security access models, capacity‑aware dataset design, gateway connectivity, and credential management.
  • Use approved external tools to support model optimisation (DAX Studio), enforce best‑practice and maintain rulesets (Tabular Editor with Best Practice Analyzer), ensure controlled deployments (ALM Toolkit) and support improvement of existing Power BI reports and datasets.
  • Design efficient Power BI datasets and reports that make effective use of available platform capacity.
  • Support monitoring and performance analysis of Power BI datasets and reports where required.
  • Support financially sustainable scaling of analytics capability.
  • Provide technical input and recommendations to support architecture and governance discussions.
  • Provide technical guidance to stakeholders on the design and effective use of Power BI reporting solutions.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience developing Power BI semantic models, dashboards, and reports in enterprise environments.
  • Experience designing dimensional models (fact and dimension tables) for analytical workloads.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Fabric architecture.
  • Advanced knowledge of DAX calculations and enterprise semantic modelling (star schemas).
  • Expertise in performance tuning and optimisation of semantic models.
  • Advanced knowledge of Power Query transformations and diagnostics.
  • Experienced in optimising SQL and other data sources for analytics workloads.
  • Working knowledge of Python in analytics contexts (Fabric notebooks, Databricks).
  • Working understanding of Azure AD / Entra ID security groups, RBAC, deployment pipelines, REST APIs for automation, data gateway architecture, audit logging and monitoring.
  • Experience implementing governance standards for enterprise analytics platforms.
