The Role
This is an entry‑level role for someone starting their career in technology. You will join the IT & Development team as an Apprentice Developer, learning the foundations of application and web development, cloud technologies, SQL databases and eventually AI‑assisted development.
You will begin with structured training and small task‑based work. This will gradually progress into contributing to real internal applications. Your work will be supported by learning and training provided by the university. The course will help guide you onto a valid career pathway and will culminate in you earning a degree with a dedicated 20% learning time (one full working day a week), structured progression towards Graduate Developer, mentorship from senior staff and pathways to full‑time Junior/Mid‑Developer roles.
Key Responsibilities
- Learn and apply the fundamentals of programming through hands‑on tasks (Python, Javascript or C#)
- Assist in building simple web pages, forms and components
- Support senior developers with tasks such as testing and documentation
- Learn relational database basics (using SQL – queries, schemas etc.)
- Shadow projects involving modern frameworks and automations
- Learn best practices in Git, code structure and documentation
- Develop problem‑solving and analysis skills through guided tasks
Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Strong interest in technology and software development
- Basic knowledge of programming (school, self‑taught, college)
- Willingness to learn web technologies and cloud platforms
- Enthusiastic, curious and proactive in picking up new skills
- Good communication and ability to work in a team
Desirable Skills
- Exposure to Python and/or C#
- Awareness of SQL fundamentals
- Interest in AI, automation or data‑driven tools
- Personal projects
