Overview

City of York Council is excited to announce that we are seeking an Engineer to join our Transport Projects team. Reporting & Team

Reporting to the Highways Engineering Design Manager, you will work within a growing City Development directorate, focused on providing and delivering a high‑quality, client‑responsive service.

Responsibilities

  • Support the ambitious Local Transport Strategy and York‑North Yorkshire Combined Authority programmes by designing complex transport, road safety and active travel projects, delivering direct improvements to the City’s transport infrastructure.
  • Undertake feasibility and detailed design of individual engineering schemes and programmes of work, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to develop engineering solutions and secure advocacy from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participate in the provision and delivery of a high‑quality client‑responsive service as part of the City Development directorate.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Enthusiastic and motivated individual willing to contribute to the team’s growth and success.
  • Excellent and proactive communicator.
  • Experience working within the civil infrastructure sector, preferably in Highways and Transport.

Location

The contractual location will be the designated council office for your team, with working arrangements determined based on the requirements of the role and in collaboration with you.
