Overview
The role will be clinically focused, with the post holder undertaking scanning sessions and non‑clinical duties. As a senior specialist sonographer, you will provide general and specialised obstetrics and gynaecology, US, small parts, MSK and neuro scanning, reporting autonomously in at least one specialised field and supporting consultant and manager roles in service delivery.
Responsibilities
- Develop an innovative sonography team and a future vision for Sonography services at NUH and in the East Midlands.
- Provide a high‑quality ultrasound service with comprehensive unsupervised scans and written reports.
- Vetting and prioritising US examinations in accordance with departmental and national guidelines.
- Maintain a high standard of patient care and deliver an excellent patient experience.
- Independently undertake ultrasound examinations using specialist knowledge in line with local, regional and national guidance.
- Provide professional leadership and training of the sonography team.
- Measure and evaluate current practices using evidence‑based projects, audit, outcome measures and benchmarking.
- Oversee the supervision, education and performance of students and trainees to meet qualification standards.
- Appraise immediate subordinates, set objectives and identify training needs to meet department and individual goals.
- Lead the non‑medical ultrasound clinical audit, research and innovation programme on behalf of the department.
- Lead and support the evaluation of service effectiveness through clinical audit in liaison with radiology and other clinical leaders.
