JOB PURPOSE
The Great Lakes Construction Co. is a heavy civil construction company headquartered in Hinckley, Ohio. We believe developing future talent is essential to the long-term strength of our company and the communities we serve, and our internship/co-op program is a direct investment in that future. We are committed to safety, efficiency, quality, integrity, and teamwork, and we genuinely value the fresh perspectives and meaningful contributions of our interns and co-op students.
The Estimating Co Op role provides the opportunity to move beyond the classroom and into the technical and strategic side of heavy civil construction while supporting experienced estimators in their day-to-day work. In this position, you will assist with reviewing project plans and specifications, performing quantity takeoffs, organizing bid documents, helping develop cost estimates for complex infrastructure projects, engaging with premier subcontractors and vendors, and participating in bid reviews.
You will work closely with the estimating team to support preconstruction efforts, contribute to planning discussions, and help coordinate information from subcontractors and suppliers. You may also have opportunities to visit jobsites to better understand field conditions and how they influence scope, pricing, and overall project execution. Through this hands‑on support, you will gain exposure to the full estimating process from early concept through bid submission while building practical knowledge and confidence.
The ideal candidate for this role is a self‑motivated individual who takes initiative and is eager to contribute while learning from experienced estimators. They have a genuine interest in performing calculations, developing cost estimates, and supporting the preparation of accurate and competitive bids. This individual is detail oriented, curious, and motivated to understand how projects are priced and awarded, with an interest in potentially pursuing a long‑term career in an estimating environment.
