About the role

As our Manufacturing Engineer, you will support the design, development and optimisation of production and assembly lines for all our aircraft seating programmes for new and existing products as well as supporting the day‑to‑day activities and running of our assembly production line. Working closely with Design Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain and Production teams, you will ensure efficient, repeatable and high‑quality manufacturing processes are developed and maintained.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day‑to‑day engineering support to the production environment.
  • Develop, improve and optimise manufacturing processes to ensure efficiency, quality and repeatability.
  • Support the manufacture of carbon fibre components.
  • Assist in compression moulding processes, including operation and optimisation of heated hydraulic presses.
  • Ensure correct handling, storage and preparation of composite materials in line with process requirements.
  • Interpret and work from engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
  • Support the design and implementation of tooling, jigs and fixtures.
  • Assist with new product introduction (NPI) activities, including process development, validation and documentation.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives (lean manufacturing, waste reduction and efficiency improvements).
  • Support root cause analysis and problem‑solving for production issues.
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety, quality and regulatory standards.
  • Create and maintain work instructions and manufacturing documentation.
  • Collaborate closely with design, quality and production teams to ensure manufacturability and smooth production flow.

Required qualifications

  • Technical experience in manufacturing engineering, with a professional qualification (university degree) and/or background in engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical) or a relevant IMechE or IET qualification / apprenticeship or equivalent vocational training.
  • Exposure to NPI (New Product Introduction) activities.
  • Understanding of carbon fibre composites, particularly prepreg systems.
  • Basic knowledge of compression moulding processes, ideally using heated hydraulic presses.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Awareness of manufacturing process control and quality requirements.
  • Understanding of tooling, lay‑up techniques and manufacturing principles.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement concepts.

Desirable qualifications

  • Experience in aerospace or other regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Experience working with composite manufacturing processes in industry.
  • Knowledge of composite defect modes and inspection techniques.
  • Familiarity with process validation and documentation.
  • Awareness of DFM/A (Design for Manufacture and Assembly) principles.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems or manufacturing software.
