Principal Control Systems Engineer

Sheffield – Hybrid

Full-time

What will you be doing?

  • Leading the design, development and integration of advanced control systems
  • Reviewing and approving system architectures, designs and technical specifications
  • Taking ownership of testing, validation and commissioning activities
  • Managing technical delivery across projects, including quality, performance and compliance
  • Working closely with software, hardware, workshop and project teams to deliver successful outcomes
  • Leading technical discussions with clients and project teams to resolve issues
  • Supporting bids and providing technical sign-off during the tendering process
  • Mentoring engineers, developing team capability and providing line management support
  • Managing project resources, budgets, reporting and close-out activities

Where you’ll be doing it?

You’ll be joining a long-established engineering business with over 50 years of experience delivering digital transformation and system integration solutions across energy, nuclear and industrial manufacturing. The company works on complex, safety-critical projects and has a strong presence across the UK.

What you’ll need:

  • At least 7 years’ experience in systems engineering, hardware design or electrical design
  • Strong knowledge of control systems and associated software and hardware
  • Experience with tools such as AutoCAD Electrical, SCADA packages, PLC packages and HMI packages
  • Experience applying systems engineering principles and system integration processes
  • Good understanding of project management, including cost control and client management
  • Basic understanding of contractual and commercial requirements
  • Experience of software development and hardware integration
  • Experience working on client sites
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to provide technical input during bids, including estimating time and effort
  • Leadership experience, with the ability to mentor, guide and support engineering teams
  • Experience in highly regulated industries would be useful
