Role Overview

We’re looking for a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to our Ore Preparation Plant, Blast Furnaces & Immingham Bulk Terminal. In this role, you’ll be leading your engineering team in the safe and efficient maintenance of site equipment. British Steel prioritises safety and an expectation of the highest standards would be paramount.

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for an assigned area’s maintenance and manage your engineering team to achieve plant safety, reliability and productivity.
  • Ensure maintenance is undertaken to correct standards and documented with work reports.
  • Mentor your team members to bring out the best and inspire continuous improvement.
  • Use modern diagnostic technology to assess plant condition and plan proactive maintenance.
  • Develop engineering solutions and improvement projects to create a safe working environment and improve reliability and performance of the area.
  • Support operation teams to meet safety, environmental and production targets.
  • Manage maintenance work scopes, technical documentation and contractor activity.

Qualifications

  • Strong mechanical engineering knowledge and confidence to apply it in a heavy industrial environment.
  • Good understanding of health and safety within engineering.
  • Experience in mechanical maintenance in complex process industries (steelmaking, power generation, chemical, oil/gas, etc.).
  • Experience with pressure systems, combustion equipment or high‑temperature operations.
  • Experience in conveyor belt systems (advantageous).
  • Experience in preventative maintenance including creation of maintenance schedules and routines.
  • Experience using CMMS (SAP) to create job reports and attach feedback for historical reference.
  • Comfortable and confident in communicating with employees and contract companies as a representative of British Steel.
  • Organisational and communication skills, ability to work with production, engineering and contractor teams.
  • Qualified to HNC or equivalent in a relevant mechanical discipline; relevant experience considered.
  • Confidence in ensuring safety, policies and work standards.
