Field Service Engineer

45 hours per week (08:00-17:30, Monday to Friday)

Our client, a well‑established organisation within the specialist vehicle sector, is currently seeking a skilled and motivated Field Service Engineer to join their Aftermarket team.

This is a mobile, customer‑facing role where you will be responsible for servicing, maintaining, and repairing specialist vehicles both on‑site and at company workshops. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring vehicles remain compliant, safe, and fully operational.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair faults on vehicle chassis and mounted equipment
  • Carry out routine servicing and maintenance to a high standard
  • Prepare vehicles for MOT inspections and ensure compliance with Department of Transport regulations
  • Utilise diagnostic software and tools to identify and resolve technical issues
  • Accurately record all work using PDA systems and maintain detailed service documentation
  • Travel to customer sites across the UK, including occasional short‑notice visits
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment at all times
  • Deliver a high level of customer service and communicate effectively with clients
  • Adhere to health and safety procedures, including completion of risk assessments

Candidate Profile

  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance
  • Proven experience in a similar role (e.g. Field Service Engineer, HGV Technician, Workshop Engineer)
  • Strong diagnostic and fault‑finding capabilities
  • Good understanding of modern vehicle systems and compliance standards
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively
  • Strong communication and customer‑facing skills
  • Flexible approach to working hours and travel requirements
  • Competent IT skills, including experience completing technical documentation

Desirable (not essential)

  • Experience with electric vehicles
  • IRTEC qualification
  • HGV Class 2 licence
