Unleash Your Leadership Potential

Business Unit Manager

Location: Birmingham

Career Level: Senior Management

Salary: £70k-£75k plus car allowance, plus bonus

The Opportunity

Are you a high-impact leader who thrives at the intersection of strategy and action? Cruise Control Recruitment has been engaged to find a powerhouse Business Unit Manager to spearhead operations at a premier manufacturing facility in Birmingham.

This isn’t just a “desk job”—it’s a vital, high-visibility role where you own the pulse of the plant. As a key member of the Senior Management team, you will be the architect of daily success, transforming complex business goals into high-performing reality. If you are passionate about driving a Zero Harm safety culture and achieving Zero Defect precision, this is your next career-defining move.

How You’ll Make an Impact

In this role, you aren’t just managing a process; you’re leading people and driving profitability. Your focus will span across:

  • Strategic Ownership: Take full accountability for the Business Unit P&L. You’ll find the “flex” in daily operations to maximize efficiency and slash variable costs.
  • Operational Excellence: Use your expertise in Theory of Constraints (TOC) to smash throughput targets and ensure customers get exactly what they need, exactly when they need it.
  • People Leadership: Mentor and develop a team of Production Managers. You’ll be responsible for building a culture of technical mastery and high engagement within a unionized environment.
  • Continuous Improvement: From capacity modeling to identifying bottlenecks, you will proactively design the “recovery plans” that keep the facility ahead of the curve.
  • Safety & Quality Champion: Lead the charge in HSE and Quality compliance (ISO9001/14001), ensuring that “Zero Harm” is more than a slogan—it’s the standard.

The Ideal Profile

We are looking for a “bridge-builder”—someone who can speak the language of Finance and HR just as fluently as they speak to Engineering and Quality.

  • Experience: A proven track record in a fast-paced manufacturing environment (Aerospace experience is a significant advantage).
  • Education: Graduate caliber, ideally with a Management Diploma or equivalent “battle-tested” leadership experience in a unionized setting.
  • Mindset: Proactive yet agile—ready to plan for the quarter but sharp enough to handle the live challenges of a production floor.
  • Technical Savvy: Comfortable with data-driven decision-making and modern manufacturing systems.
