Role Overview And Purpose
- Utilise core skills as a mobile engineer performing planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and reactive fault diagnostics and installations related to the company’s core activities.
- Maintain own health and safety, following method statements and risk assessments on all sites.
- Carry out the planned delivery of SFG 20 maintenance and repair across 51 fire stations in London.
- Conduct maintenance and repairs of remedial work identified during PPM.
- Operate as part of a wider team, adopting a teamwork mentality and collaborating with colleagues.
- PPM duties include generator load testing, monthly emergency light testing, L8 temperature checks, meter readings, shower outlet descaling, extraction fans, pumps, lighting and general mechanical, electrical, and plumbing maintenance.
- Respond as first‑line service on reactive calls, attempting a first‑time fix within your skill set and assisting with completion of standard maintenance and repair within the mechanical, electrical and building fabric trades.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct planned maintenance across the LFB estate to SFG 20 standard.
- Complete engineer’s worksheet in full, detailing plant requiring additional work.
- Provide details of remedial quotations, including photographs before and after each job.
- Complete work competently to prevent callbacks and KPI failures.
- Identify lifecycle replacement requirements.
- Submit a weekly timesheet correctly to your line manager.
- Submit weekly expenses with all supporting receipts.
- Complete all necessary paperwork for the customer on site and obtain the customer’s signature to enable invoicing without delay.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Planned maintenance competence to SFG 20.
- Emergency lighting fundamentals unit 1 & 2.
- Generator load testing.
- L8 awareness.
- Trade qualifications in plumbing, mechanical or electrical equivalent.
- IPAF, PASMA certifications.
Desirable but Not Essential
- City & Guilds 236/0 & 2330 Electrical Installation/Maintenance or equivalent.
- 18th Edition IEE.
- Fabric experience in one or all of the following: tiling, carpentry, painting, plastering.
