We are working with a well-established and growing Bridge Engineering specialist consultancy seeking a Principal Bridge Engineer to join their expanding team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced professional looking to take on a senior, client-facing role with strong career progression prospects.

The Role

As a Principal Bridge Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering a diverse portfolio of structural engineering projects across multiple sectors. You will be involved in the design, assessment, strengthening, and refurbishment of a wide range of structures, working with various materials. The role also includes investigative and consultancy work, with a strong focus on bridges and structural assets. This is a varied position combining technical delivery, project leadership, and client engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver structural and bridge design projects, including assessments and strengthening schemes
  • Undertake and oversee structural inspections, surveys, and non‑destructive testing
  • Provide technical leadership, including checking and approving designs
  • Manage projects through all stages, including planning, execution, and construction supervision
  • Act as Employer's Representative where required
  • Contribute to specialist investigations, forensic engineering, and expert witness work
  • Support business development activities, including client engagement and bid preparation
  • Mentor and manage junior engineers and design teams

Essential Requirements

  • Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer
  • Strong experience in structural design to British Standards and/or Eurocodes
  • Proven experience managing projects and design teams
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Bridge design and assessment expertise
  • Structural inspections and investigation experience
  • Preparation of specifications and contract documentation
  • CAD proficiency
  • Relevant site certifications (e.g. CSCS, IPAF, PASMA, confined spaces)
