Assistant Youth Worker HEROES+ Location: Northern Ireland wide programme with primary office base in Belfast (additional bases in Enniskillen and Newry; hybrid working policy in place) Salary: £23,934 per annum (pro rata for 25 hours per week) Contract: Fixed-term for 2 years (with possible extension subject to funding) Hours: Part-time, 25 hours per week (evening and weekend work may be required at times to fulfil the obligations of the post) Heroes+ is funded by the Special EU Programmes Body. The project is led by Mencap NI, with delivery partners across Northern Ireland, including Access Employment Limited (AEL), Bardic Educational Arts and Media (BEAM), Compass Advocacy Network (CAN), incredABLE, and Volunteer Now. The Role Volunteer Now is seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Youth Worker to support the delivery of the HEROES+ programme, helping young people aged 1424 who have been excluded from mainstream education and/or have additional support needs to build confidence, skills and positive pathways for the future. You will support youth workers in developing, organising and delivering tailored programmes that enhance young peoples skills and knowledge and provide opportunities linked to good relations, personal development, employability, citizenship and positive progression. This role may also suit candidates who have worked as a youth support worker, youth project assistant, community youth worker, learning support worker, or youth programme assistant. Key Responsibilities Assist with the recruitment of project participants within agreed localities, with a focus on young people excluded from mainstream education Provide direct support to young people individually and in group settings, engaging with them in an open, friendly and professional way Support young people to express their personal goals and aspirations through individual and group development plans Act as a positive role model to the young people you support Assist with the delivery of youth work programmes and interventions under the guidance of youth workers Support the assessment of young peoples strengths, life skills, experiences and attitudes towards good relations and diversity Work as part of the project team to reflect on practice, inform project development and support evaluation Work closely with the youth work team and finance team to ensure the team and young people have access to appropriate resources Undertake activities that increase youth volunteering and youth social action across Northern Ireland Promote and support youth volunteering and youth social action, including the #iwill movement and other youth work and recognition programmes Support the delivery of youth work programmes, including residentials, that meet youth work policy and practice standards Support increased recognition and value for youth social action and volunteering Contribute to the effective use and development of Be Collective, Volunteer Now databases, website and other media forms Contribute to the health and safety of staff and programme participants Gather and feedback information to support monitoring of individual progress, learning outcomes and project evaluation Complete reports against project targets and outcomes using agreed processes and timescales About You You will be passionate about supporting young people and confident in working in a youth setting. You will bring: A relevant qualification, minimum OCN Level 2 in Youth Work, or at least 2 years experience supporting young people within the last 5 years At least 2 years experience of working with young people in a youth setting The ability to encourage young people to try new activities and mix with their peers The ability to work with young people to organise an appropriate programme of activities that delivers project outcomes Experience of volunteering, promoting volunteering, social action and delivering support services A commitment to Volunteer Nows organisational values A full driving licence and/or access to a form of transport to meet the requirements of the post Basic IT skills A youth work qualification, understanding of barriers facing young people with social, communication or learning difficulties, awareness of inclusive practices, and experience in youth social action programmes, event planning, record keeping and evaluation would be advantageous.
