NHS Grampian is looking to recruit a Specialty Doctor in Anaesthesia. The post provides an opportunity for candidates who wish to work on a full or part time basis. The post will be primarily based at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and Woodend Hospital with occasional commitments at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital and Royal Aberdeen Children Hospital.

The post consists of theatre sessions in General and Orthopaedic Surgery, in addition to flexible theatre sessions. On call duties will take the form of 1 in 8 Saturday and Sunday daytime first on call resident shifts.

Located in the North East of Scotland, Aberdeen is an affluent, friendly and vibrant city, combining all the amenities of a large city with quick, easy access to its beautiful surrounding countryside and coastline.

Aberdeen has a large anaesthetic department which covers a comprehensive range of clinical services, and, as a teaching hospital department, there is strong involvement in a wide range of educational activities. There are also many opportunities to develop research interests in collaboration with the local universities. Consequently, there is excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic appointee to develop interests in a wide choice of areas. It will be possible for some aspects of the job plan to be changed on negotiation with the Clinical Director.

Full registration with a licence to practise with the GMC is required. (Licence to practise must be in place prior to starting in post).

Candidates will be expected to have completed at least four years’ full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a less than full-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme or specialty registrar locum appointment for training (LAT) in Anaesthesia, or shall have equivalent training, experience or competencies, either in the UK or overseas. Possession of the FRCA is desirable.
