A successful and growing multidisciplinary consultancy is seeking a Senior Drainage & Flood Risk Engineer to join their established team in Huddersfield. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer to play a key role in delivering drainage and flood risk solutions across a wide range of development and infrastructure projects. Working within a collaborative, multi-discipline environment, you will contribute to the design and delivery of sustainable drainage strategies, flood risk assessments, and infrastructure solutions for residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments.

Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for delivering high-quality drainage and flood risk projects while supporting junior engineers and working closely with other disciplines across the business.
  • Preparation of Flood Risk Assessments (FRA) and Drainage Strategies for planning applications.
  • Design of sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) and surface water management solutions.
  • Production of detailed drainage designs for residential and commercial developments.
  • Liaising with local authorities, Lead Local Flood Authorities, Environment Agency, and water companies.
  • Supporting the delivery of projects from concept through planning and detailed design stages.
  • Mentoring and providing technical support to junior members of the team.
  • Use of industry software such as MicroDrainage, InfoDrainage, Civil 3D, or similar.

About You

  • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Strong experience delivering drainage design and flood risk assessments within the UK development sector.
  • Good understanding of SuDS principles, planning requirements, and relevant UK standards.
  • Experience working with stakeholders including local authorities and statutory consultees.
  • Working towards Chartered Engineer status (ICE or similar) is desirable.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
