To ensure the discipline continues to operate as a connected , high‑performing team as it grows, we are seeking a Director – Civil & Structural Engineering across multiple UK offices.
This is a senior leadership role for a Chartered Civil or Structural professional with a proven track record in delivering growth, supporting and managing large, multi‑office teams, and delivering design excellence across complex, multi‑disciplinary projects.
You will combine technical authority with commercial leadership , driving performance across projects, people, and clients while supporting continued business growth.
Key Purpose
- Deliver business and growth strategies aligned with company vision and values
- Mange design excellence, innovation, and consistent technical quality
- Oversee project performance including programme, risk, and financial outcomes
- Support and manage multi‑office teams, ensuring capability, capacity, and resource alignment
- Provide technical governance through design reviews and bid‑stage assurance
- Ensure compliance with quality systems and drive continuous improvement
Responsibilities
- Full responsibility for discipline financial performance, including fee management, forecasting, cost control, and board‑level reporting
- Approve bids, fee proposals, contracts, and consultancy appointments
- Manage change control and ensure commercial alignment across project delivery
Leadership & People
- Be responsible for and manage large, multi‑office teams, including recruitment, resourcing, and succession planning
- Provide visible leadership, mentoring, and capability development
- Foster a collaborative, high‑performance culture across the discipline
- Ensure teams are effectively structured to meet current and future workload demands
Commercial & Technical Delivery
- Manage delivery of complex, multi‑sector projects to high technical and commercial standards
- Oversee project controls, including fees, risk, and overall delivery performance
- Support bid and design reviews, ensuring quality, compliance, and competitiveness
- Maintain technical governance across all workstreams
- Manage external consultants and specialist sub‑consultants
- Strengthen client relationships and support business growth initiatives
About you
- Chartered Civil or Structural professional (ICE, IStructE or equivalent)
- Proven experience directing and managing large, multi‑office or geographically dispersed teams
- Strong track record in delivering complex, multi‑sector, multi‑disciplinary projects in a leadership capacity
- Strong commercial responsibility, including fee management, contracts, project performance, and financial reporting
- Experience engaging and influencing senior internal and external stakeholders, including clients and leadership teams
- Strong people leadership capability, including team development, resourcing, and performance management
- Must be willing and able to obtain, or already hold, the required Security Clearance to work on nuclear and defence sector projects
