Camden High Risk Podiatrist

Overview

Opportunity for a 11‑month FTC maternity cover (Band 7) specialist/community podiatric care focusing on high‑risk patients including those with complex diabetic, vascular, neuropathic and wound complications.

Responsibilities

  • Provide and be responsible for comprehensive care of patients with complex high‑risk foot problems, working with multidisciplinary teams in community settings and secondary care.
  • Support community staff in managing complex foot conditions, including education of staff, students and apprentices.
  • Line‑manage and supervise Community Podiatrists, delivering regular supervision and carrying out operational duties.
  • Clinically accountable for treatment of the high‑risk caseload, accepting emergency referrals from GPs, community podiatrists and other health professionals, and delivering responsive specialist care.
  • Deliver podiatry care and wound care for patients with musculoskeletal conditions.
  • Use clinical reasoning to assess, diagnose and formulate treatment plans for a variety of high‑risk foot problems and other medical conditions.
  • Recognise when diagnostics are required and make onward referrals; interpret investigations such as microbiology, X‑ray and scans and respond appropriately.
  • Conduct highly skilled debridement techniques of acute and chronic, neuropathic and ischaemic wounds, often for prolonged periods.
  • Apply principles of wound management and use advanced knowledge of dressings, their modes of action and appropriate indications.
  • Utilise biomechanical knowledge for wound care and basic musculoskeletal problems.
  • Work autonomously and as part of the multidisciplinary diabetes foot team, taking the clinical diabetes/high‑risk foot specialist role.
  • Promote multidisciplinary team working and ensure patients are not placed at risk by adhering to agreed referral criteria.
  • Provide diabetes and other high‑risk foot care within community, specialist clinics, secondary care, wards and residential homes.
  • Take direct referrals from GP, community podiatry and community nursing, providing rapid access and expert clinical advice and intervention based on agreed referral criteria.
  • Provide an active role in education of staff, students and apprentices.

Requirements

Applicants will require extensive knowledge, clinical skills and experience at a Band 7 level in diabetes, vascular complications of the foot and lower limb, and wound care.

Applicants must work in accordance with the College of Podiatry and Health and Care Professions Council Code of Professional Conduct, including scope of professional practice.
