Senior Project Engineer (Electrical)

Base Office: RickmansworthSite Locations: Affinity Water region

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Project Engineer (Electrical) with a water sector focus to join our Affinity Water team, a Galliford Try business. You’ll play a pivotal role in delivering major water infrastructure projects, working closely with the Project Manager and the wider delivery team to ensure designs, procurement, financial control, and site activities meet project objectives.

What you will be doing:

  • Lead engineering activities from concept through to completion, using in-house resources and site teams.
  • Deliver water projects involving new clean water assets (above and below ground), including temporary works and varied installation methods.
  • Coordinate early site investigations with clients, designers, and project teams.
  • Engage across the full project lifecycle from ECI through to delivery.
  • Prepare and review health & safety documentation (risk assessments, method statements, project management plans).
  • Manage procurement of materials and identify opportunities for efficiencies.
  • Attend and contribute to factory/site testing, commissioning, and client training.
  • Participate in internal and client design reviews and hazard studies.
  • Work closely with design teams to develop optimal solutions.
  • Support cost-to-complete and budget reviews with project teams.
  • Negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors; assist with subcontract orders and variation claims.
  • Liaise with site managers to ensure delivery meets programme, budget, and quality standards.
  • Develop and manage Inspection and Test Plans throughout the project.
  • Drive innovation while ensuring compliance with current standards.
  • Prepare and manage project programmes.
  • Maintain high standards of health & safety performance.
  • Coordinate setting out activities and provide clear instructions to operatives and subcontractors.
  • Oversee completion of contract documentation, including “As Built” drawings, commissioning manuals, and O&M manuals.

About You:

  • ONC/HNC/B.Eng or NVQ equivalent in a relevant discipline.
  • Proficient in standard setting out techniques (Level, EDM, GPS).
  • Proven experience in the utility industry.
  • Strong commercial and contractual awareness.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office and Project.
  • Committed to promoting company purpose, vision, and values.
  • Professional, organised, and passionate about excellence.
  • Flexible, resilient, and able to build strong relationships at all levels.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Customer‑focused with strong influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Experience in leading and managing teams/functions.
  • CSCS, SMSTS, EUSR Water Hygiene cards (desirable).
