We are recruiting a Day Hospice Staff Nurse to work at Overgate Hospice, an independent charitable organisation in Calderdale providing specialist palliative care.
Job Responsibilities
- Deliver skilled, compassionate nursing care in both hospice and community settings.
- Conduct initial assessments, plan and negotiate care with patients, families and the multidisciplinary team.
- Manage physical and psychological symptoms, complete My Future Wishes and ReSPECT forms and document care accurately.
- Delegate duties to junior team members, supervise volunteers and staff, and provide mentorship as required.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure effective patient management and respond to urgent clinical calls.
- Maintain high standards of nursing care, report incidents and near‑misses, and act when standards are compromised.
- Participate in induction, training, ongoing supervision and education programmes for staff, students and volunteers.
- Engage in professional development, audit, research and benchmarking activities to enhance patient care.
- Support the day hospice manager and sister in risk assessment, complaint resolution, and conflict management.
- Use resources efficiently, maintain cost awareness, and uphold health and safety and confidentiality standards.
Key Working Relationships
- Patients, relatives, carers and friends.
- All nursing and medical staff, ward clerks, housekeeping, catering, clinical admin staff and volunteers.
Minimum Qualifications / Experience
- Registered Nurse.
- Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and compliance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.

- Mandatory safeguarding training and adherence to Overgate Hospice safeguarding policies.

- Knowledge of health and safety regulations, the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the General Data Protection Regulations.
- Participation in the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 Disclosure and Barring Service check.
