Trainee Advanced Care Practitioner

An exciting opportunity has become available to join the Acute Medicine team at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust as a Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner. This position is for an individual who would like to progress into advanced practice with experience in Acute Medicine and is expected to undertake an MSC in Advanced Practice at a local University commencing in September 2026.

Job responsibilities

• Practice under supervision within an acute setting to provide patient‑centred quality care in AAU, ED and SDEC.
• Assess, prioritise and manage patients attending or referred to Acute Medicine and the Same Day Emergency Care department (SDEC) with undifferentiated health conditions.
• Provide a level of advanced and comprehensive assessment based on specialist knowledge.
• Directly manage the patient caseload and supervise/develop junior members of the multidisciplinary team.
• Appropriately assess, examine, investigate, diagnose and treat patients, ensuring safe management and appropriate referral or discharge.
• Contribute to the development and improvement of systems and processes that facilitate patient flow.

Qualifications

• Registered healthcare professional (e.g., NMC, AHP, GPC).
• Willingness to undertake a Masters (or equivalent) degree in Advanced Practice.
• Extensive experience in the relevant area of specialism.
• ILS/ALS certification.
• Evidence of continued professional development.
• ALS provider / instructor qualification.

Experience

• Clinical experience in the department.
• Portfolio of evidence showing achievements in practice.
• Evidence of ability to undertake audits, provide feedback and demonstrate outcomes.
• Experience of leading service improvement initiatives.
• Experience of mentorship or supervising, with applicable course accreditation where relevant.
