The role:
We are seeking a BPSS Cleared Test Automation Engineer to support the delivery of modern digital services within a fast‑paced and collaborative technology environment.
This role will focus on designing, building and executing automated testing solutions across both React-based front-end applications and Node.js-based back-end services, helping to ensure quality, accessibility and reliability across the full software development lifecycle.
You will work closely with developers, product teams and engineering stakeholders to deliver robust testing across microservices, APIs and cloud-based systems, with exposure to technologies across the AWS stack.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong automation and accessibility testing experience to play a key role in delivering high‑quality digital products in a modern engineering environment.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop and maintain automated test frameworks and test suites
- Build and execute automated tests using Selenium and Cucumber
- Carry out testing across React front-end and Node.js back-end applications
- Perform functional, regression, integration and end‑to‑end testing
- Test APIs and service integrations using tools such as Swagger
- Support testing across microservices‑based architectures
- Work within AWS environments, including services such as SQS, SNS and Lambda
- Use Mockito or similar mocking frameworks to support test development
- Perform accessibility testing in line with WCAG 2.2
- Test compatibility with assistive technologies such as JAWS and/or Dragon
- Identify defects, risks and quality issues and provide clear reporting on outcomes
- Collaborate with engineering teams to embed quality throughout the delivery lifecycle
- Use Git for version control and support testing within modern CI/CD delivery environments
Skills & Experience:
- BPSS Clearance is required
- Proven experience in test automation
- Strong hands‑on experience with Selenium and Cucumber
- Experience using Mockito
- Experience testing across both React‑based front‑end and Node.js‑based back‑end systems
- Strong understanding of API testing, including use of Swagger
- Experience working with Git
- Experience with the AWS stack, ideally including SQS, SNS and Lambda
- Experience testing within microservices environments
- Strong understanding of accessibility testing
- Experience testing against WCAG 2.2
- Experience using assistive tools such as JAWS and/or Dragon
- Strong communication skills and a proactive, detail‑focused approach
- Experience working in regulated or enterprise‑scale environments
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices
- Experience of non‑functional testing
- Knowledge of Agile delivery methodologies
- Experience working closely with cross‑functional engineering teams
