This will involve carrying out assessments of sites, analysing key data such as accident statistics, undertaking research on factors such as traffic flow, pedestrian crossings, dimensions of footways and visibility. Using specialist software, you will design the proposal, considering costings, quantity of materials and funding options. Once approved, you will work with engineers to produce a detailed civil engineering design and in some cases procure contractors to complete the works. You will be responsible for the management of schemes, including carrying out public consultations and bearing in mind issues such as double yellow lines, bus lanes and the legality around making such improvements.
What you’ll need
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to write reports, work to tight deadlines and work as part of a team to meet project objectives.
- Experience in using IT applications to produce letters, spreadsheets, reports and presentations, and an understanding of highway design packages such as AutoCAD.
- Excellent communication, numerical and organisational skills to collaborate with stakeholders and deliver projects within set deadlines and to budget.
