Local Authority | Interim | Immediate Start
We are supporting a large local authority with the urgent appointment of an Interim Director of Legal and Democratic Services (Monitoring Officer) following the imminent retirement of the current postholder.
This is a key statutory role and requires an experienced interim who can provide assurance, stability, and senior leadership during a period of transition.
The role
• Acting as Monitoring Officer with responsibility for legal, governance, and democratic services
• Providing strategic advice to elected members and senior officers
• Ensuring robust governance, standards, and constitutional compliance
• Leading a senior legal and democratic services function within a complex organisation
The ideal candidate
• Proven experience operating at Monitoring Officer level or equivalent senior legal governance role
• Background within a large local authority, ideally a unitary council
• Strong political awareness and experience working with members
• Available to start as soon as reasonably possible
Working arrangements
• Onsite attendance required for a minimum of three days per week
• Location: Lincolnshire / Yorkshire greater area.
