About the role
Reading’s Legal Service provides the Council and its partners with the highest quality professional legal advice and representation. We host a Joint Legal Team, a long‑standing shared legal service for all the Berkshire councils and a recognised centre of excellence for childcare, adults, and education law, and we leading a highly regarded internal Corporate Legal Team. The Joint Legal Team is looking for a Senior Adult Social Care Lawyer to join its Adult Social Care and Education Team.
- Require an excellent working knowledge of key adult social care legislation, including Care Act 2014, ordinary residence, continuing health care, deprivation of liberty, age assessments and judicial review.
- Hold a caseload of adult social care cases, including but not limited to Care Act 2014, ordinary residence, continuing health care, deprivation of liberty, age assessments, judicial review cases and inquests.
- Line‑manage and supervise junior members of the team.
- Provide advice to a wide range of stakeholders and be able to conduct your own advocacy or gain advocacy skills.
- Work well under pressure, meet tight deadlines and work effectively as part of a team.
About you
- Possess a valid practising certificate and authorisation to practice in England as a Solicitor, Barrister, or Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives.
- Have experience supervising junior staff.
- Be able to manage a demanding caseload and work effectively under pressure.
- Be willing to develop advocacy skills.
