Engineering & Maintenance Manager
Location: Tilbury
Salary: Up to £78,324 + £4,694 Location Allowance + Up to 20% Bonus
Contract: Permanent | Start Date: July | Site-Based Role
The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Engineering & Maintenance Manager to join a major energy and infrastructure organisation at a state‑of‑the‑art Energy Recovery Facility.
This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring the long‑term performance, availability, and reliability of a highly complex process plant, while maintaining the highest standards of safety, compliance, and asset integrity.
The Role
Reporting to the Plant Manager, you will take full responsibility for the Engineering & Maintenance function on site, leading both direct and indirect teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Full ownership of plant availability, reliability, and maintenance strategy
- Leading and developing a multi‑disciplinary engineering team
- Managing planned outages and unplanned shutdowns
- Responsibility for OPEX and lifecycle CAPEX budgets
- Ensuring compliance with all health, safety, and environmental legislation
- Overseeing statutory inspections and ensuring full regulatory compliance (e.g. PSSR, LOLER)
- Driving effective use of CMMS and preventative maintenance systems
- Managing contractors, particularly during high‑volume outage periods
- Working closely with operations to maximise plant throughput and efficiency
- Identifying and delivering continuous improvement and cost‑saving initiatives
About You
- Degree / HND / HNC in Engineering (or equivalent) – fully qualified engineer
- Strong, confident engineering leader with experience in power generation, energy‑from‑waste, or a similar heavy industrial/process environment
- Proven experience managing engineering teams, including multiple direct and indirect reports
- Strong leadership skills with the confidence to manage large contractor workforces, particularly during outage periods
- Demonstrable experience managing budgets (OPEX & CAPEX)
- Experience in contract management within an engineering or industrial environment
- Background in power generation, process plant, or a similar heavy industry sector
- Strong understanding of statutory inspections and regulatory compliance (e.g. PSSR, LOLER)
- Experience using CMMS and preventative maintenance systems
- Technical knowledge of pressure systems, steam turbines, and electrical generation equipment
- Excellent communication skills with a strong, proactive and “can-do” approach
