Heart Failure Fellow

Contract Details

Start Date: August 2026
Contract Type: Fixed-term, 12 months.
Purpose: Training contract providing structured training, supervised clinical development, and service delivery.

Location

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, Southampton, UK.

Responsibilities

Provide advanced heart‑failure management for in‑patient and out‑patient care. Attend and support dedicated heart‑failure and cardiomyopathy clinics. Assist with hospital admissions, manage heart‑failure patients, and provide clinical support to heart‑failure nurses. Contribute to the on‑call SpR rota for Cardiology and present cases in the multidisciplinary team (MDT).

Training and Development

Receive training in right‑hand catheterisation, pacing, and complex device therapies (CRT, ICD). Opportunity for further training in imaging (MRI, echo) and cardiopulmonary exercise testing. Educational framework equivalent to training‑grade doctors with an assigned educational supervisor and CPD support.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 years of specialty training.
• Holder of a relevant higher‑specialty exam (FRCP, FRCA, FRCS).
• Portfolio demonstrating progression aligned to the speciality curriculum.

Research Opportunities

Participate in national trials, including COAST, FIRE 1, CardioMEMS remote management, and BHF funded studies on ICDs in non‑ischemic cardiomyopathy.
