An experienced Knitwear Mender is required to join a fast fashion supplier based in East Midlands you will be responsible for restoring, repairing, and finishing knitted garments to high-quality standards. This role involves both hand-mending techniques and the use of industrial machinery to fix issues like snags, and dropped stitches.
Job Responsibilities and Duties
- Garment Inspection: Examine finished or worn garments to identify faults, defects, or damage.
- Invisible Mending: Perform delicate, high-end invisible repairs to restore cashmere and other knitwear to original condition.
- Darning and Re-knitting: Repair holes and thinning areas using darning techniques, latch tools, or re-knitting dropped stitches.
- Seam Repair: Re-sew or fix unraveling seams, pulls, and snags.
- Finishing: Use industrial irons and steamers to press and finish garments to quality standards.
- Production Support: In production environments, link knitted panels together using industrial linking machines.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Experience: Previous experience in knitwear production, garment construction, or textile repair (1-2 years preferred).
- Technical Knowledge: Understanding of different knit fabrics and material properties.
- Machine Operation: Proficiency with industrial machines, specifically overlockers and linking machines.
- Hand Skills: Excellent hand-eye coordination for intricate hand-sewing and darning.
- Attention to Detail: Exceptional focus on quality and consistency.
