Laboratory Specialist
Location: Broughton. Contract: 12‑month (inside IR35). Work type: Fully onsite. Pay: £39.45 per hour (umbrella) or £29.49 per hour PAYE. Shift uplift & overtime available.

This role suits a hands‑on Laboratory Specialist who enjoys working closely with engineering and production teams on real, industrial challenges.
The role
You’ll be based in a well‑established materials laboratory, carrying out mechanical testing and metallographic analysis to recognised international standards. The position also supports manufacturing processes through inspection, technical input, and investigation work, making this a varied and engaging role rather than a routine lab position.
Key areas include:
- Mechanical testing (tensile, hardness) and reporting
- Metallographic preparation and microscopy
- Technical support for heat treatments, surface treatments, and coatings
- Assisting with investigations, process improvements, and quality documentation
About you
- Degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering or similar
- Proven experience in a hands‑on laboratory testing environment
- Strong understanding of metallography, mechanical testing, and industrial processes
- Comfortable working to standards and technical specifications
