Process Engineering Manager

Company: Vateris
Apply for the Process Engineering Manager
Location: Nottingham
Job Description:

Remuneration: above market rate + meaningful equity + performance-based bonus

Start Date: Immediate

Contract Type: Permanent, Full-time

Visa Sponsorship: Available for exceptional candidates only

About Us

Vateris is building one of the most commercially viable CO₂ mineralisation platforms globally.

We are already operating at pilot scale (~3 tonnes/year).

Next steps:

This is a 1000× scale-up, and we are executing it now with major industrial partners (Holcim, Goldbeck).

The Role

This is a delivery leadership role.

We are looking for a Process Engineering Manager who can take full ownership of engineering execution, subcontractors, budget, and delivery — and turn a working process into a fully engineered, operable, and commercially viable plant.

Your job is not to design in isolation.

Your job is to deliver a plant that works, on time, on budget, and meets performance targets.

What You Will Actually Do

Own delivery of the demo plant (~300 t/year) and define the pathway to industrial scale (~300 kt/year)

Lead and manage all engineering activities and subcontractors:

  • EPC / integrators
  • consultants
  • internal engineering team

Translate process risks into engineered solutions:

  • identify failure modes
  • ensure robustness at scale

Own budget, cost control, and financial discipline:

  • capex planning
  • cost vs performance trade-offs

Ensure the plant meets technoeconomic and commercial targets:

  • throughput
  • operability and uptime

Lead FEED, detailed design, and engineering package development

  • PFDs / P&IDs
  • mass & energy balances
  • equipment specifications
  • system integration
  • Mechanical skid design

Drive supplier selection, contracting, and performance management

Lead commissioning, debugging, and ramp-up — not just design

Own factory acceptance testing (FAT) and ensure real performance matches design intent

Work closely with chemistry and analytical teams to ensure the process is controllable and stable

Deliver on time, budget, and performance — simultaneously

Degree in Chemical Engineering

10–15+ years of experience delivering process plants and scale-up projects (TRL 5–9)

  • engineering teams
  • subcontractors
  • commissioning and start-up

Demonstrated ability to translate technical risk into practical engineering solutions

Strong commercial awareness — understands cost, value, and trade-offs

Experience delivering projects to budget and schedule under pressure

High ownership mindset — no reliance on others to drive delivery

Strong Signals (We Will Prioritise)

You have delivered a demo or first-of-a-kind plant

You have managed EPCs / integrators / complex supplier networks

Experience in CCS, chemicals, energy, or materials processing

Experience with solids, precipitation, crystallisation, or multiphase systems

You have taken responsibility for budget + delivery + performance (not just design)

Ownership of scaling a breakthrough process from pilot → demo → industrial

Equity in a company targeting global decarbonisation

Direct engagement with major industrial partners and investors

High-impact leadership role with full delivery responsibility

Fast progression based on results

No bureaucracy — only execution

Final Note (Read Carefully)

This role is about accountability.

If you want:

  • to focus only on design
  • to avoid budget responsibility
  • to avoid managing subcontractors
  • or to work without pressure on delivery

this is not the role.

If you want to:

  • own engineering delivery end-to-end
  • build a real industrial system
  • and be accountable for cost, performance, and timeline
