Purpose of the Role
The Calibration Technician plays a critical role in delivering high-quality calibration and instrumentation support within a regulated, mission-critical environment.
During the initial project phase, you will support the principal contractor in developing site documentation and establishing calibration and instrumentation processes in line with client requirements. Once the site is fully operational, the role transitions to a steady-state focus, including:
- Day-to-day calibration service delivery
- Maintenance and control of critical test equipment
- Coordination of third-party calibration providers
- Ensuring system accuracy, availability, and regulatory compliance
Key Responsibilities
- Calibration & Instrumentation Services
- Deliver comprehensive calibration for control and instrumentation systems across the site.
- Perform Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and client-requested calibration activities.
- Diagnose faults on field instrumentation and implement corrective or remedial actions.
- Procedures, Planning & Maintenance
- Develop, implement, and maintain site calibration procedures and maintenance strategies.
- Define, manage, and review equipment tolerances for plant and process systems.
- Identify test equipment requirements and maintain appropriate workspace for calibration activities.
- Maximise plant and equipment availability through effective PPM regimes.
- Technical & Project Support
- Provide technical expertise for projects, commissioning, and system handovers.
- Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and A3 investigations, producing actionable reports.
- Initiate and receive Permits to Work in line with site procedures and safety requirements.
- Asset, Spares & Supplier Management
- Identify spare parts requirements, raise purchase requests, and manage stock levels.
- Coordinate dispatch and return of test equipment to third-party calibration suppliers in line with CMMS schedules.
- Ensure all work orders are completed within contractual metrics and timescales.
- Collaboration & Operational Support
- Work closely with the Systems Manager and site management to support operational objectives.
- Provide cross-team and cross-account technical support as required.

Person Specification
- Education & Training
- Good general education with strong written and spoken English.
- Basic mathematical competency.
- Completed formal apprenticeship in Calibration and Instrumentation.
- HNC/HND (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline.
- cGxP training for regulated environments.
- Experience (Essential)
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in calibration and maintenance within regulated industries (e.g., pharmaceutical, food processing, laboratory).
- Proven experience developing, writing, and maintaining calibration procedures.
- Skills & Aptitudes
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- High IT literacy, including CMMS platforms.
- Structured, methodical approach to fault-finding and technical documentation.
