Role Overview

Graduate Powertrain Systems Engineer – £35,000‑45,000 plus benefits. This role is open to graduate or junior engineers with demonstrable experience of powertrain engineering gained within formula student, a relevant internship or significant academic project (e.g., thesis). Preference is given to those with relevant industry experience post‑academia. Experience should involve first‑hand internal combustion engine (ICE) design, development, test or calibration.

The company cannot provide work visa sponsorship for this role.

Key Responsibilities

As a powertrain systems engineer, you will work within a multi‑skilled team to bring next‑generation ICE systems from concept to production. You will develop product requirements and system specifications for specific engine subsystems, supporting their development through all phases of the V‑cycle (concept, validation, and production). Your work will involve collaboration with component design, analysis, development and test teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in automotive engineering or a related field.
  • Demonstrable experience of powertrain engineering through formula student, internship or significant academic project (e.g., thesis).
  • First‑hand practical experience with ICEs (build, test, development, calibration) gained in industry, academia or personal projects.
  • Experience with the design, development or test of base engine components and systems (fuel, air intake, valvetrain, etc.).
  • Interest or experience in automotive combustion engines, including hydrogen, ICE and hybrid.
  • Understanding of product specifications, requirements, analysis, test/validation procedures, FMEA, 8D and DVP processes.

Location

Onsite within an hour of Derby – including Burton‑upon‑Trent, Uttoxeter, Lichfield, Stoke‑on‑Trent, Stafford, Nottingham, Leicester, Tamworth and Loughborough.

This role is not a detailed level CAD design position.
