Role

We are looking for a Reserving Manager to help lead the day-to-day reserving work as well as new and existing projects.

Reserving

  • Manage the reserving team through the quarterly reserving process as required including reviewing of reserve projections by line, analysis of change and documentation and presentation of the results.
  • Work closely with the claims team and underwriters on queries and business planning impacting the lines of business.
  • Take heavy involvement in deep dives to review reserving assumptions and projections for certain classes within property, casualty and specialty divisions.
  • Provide thought-leadership to developing key reserving projects (such as reserving for the impact of additional inflation or climate change).
  • Lead the team in the setup of analytics and trend analysis to aid reserving reviews and provide useful management information.
  • Develop reserving methodology where possible and keep abreast of market developments.

Reserve Uncertainty

  • Manage the assessment of reserve uncertainty for all lines of business. This includes modelling and the parameterisation of reserve risk within the Syndicate capital model.

Technical Provisions

  • Manage the process for the calculation and / or review of the technical provisions.

Business Planning

  • Play full part in actuarial team’s responsibility for reviewing business plans, utilising reserving knowledge wherever possible to be able to advise underwriting teams of anticipated levels of future profitability.

General

  • Develop and critically analyse modelling for complex losses
  • Liaise with Finance to ensure timely delivery and accurate completion of reporting to Lloyd’s and regulators
  • Contribute to peer review and ensure own work is peer reviewed as appropriate, in line with professional guidance
  • Provide support to senior members of the Actuarial Function for regular work and any ad hoc basis for particular projects where needed.

Compliance

  • Responsibility for ensuring compliance with actuarial standards and market practice where relevant.
  • Compliance with Sarbannes-Oxley Control Framework including ensuring evidence of controls is maintained.
  • Deal with queries from SAO provider and external and internal audit concerning reserving process and outputs

Management

  • Manage the work of the actuarial analyst to deliver on the above tasks.

Skills required

  • Experience working as a Reserving Manager within the Lloyds’s market
  • Understanding of the classes of business transacted by the organisation, the Lloyd’s market and a knowledge of issues affecting the insurance market
  • Highly numerate with financial awareness
  • Multi-disciplined, professional approach
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Post qualification experience (FIA or equivalent) or nearly qualified.
  • Good management and supervisory skills. Ability to direct, motivate and develop reports
  • Good judgement skills regarding task prioritisation, delegation and resource allocation. Good project management
  • Good IT skills and in particular, good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and competent user of ResQ or similar reserving software
