Intermediate Fire Engineer – London
A leading multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is seeking an Intermediate Fire Engineer to join its growing London team. This is an excellent opportunity for a developing fire engineer to take on more responsibility, work on complex UK projects, and progress toward senior levels within a supportive, high‑performing environment.
The Role
As an Intermediate Fire Engineer, you will contribute to the delivery of fire engineering strategies, support senior engineers on major projects, and begin taking ownership of your own workstreams. You’ll collaborate with architects, structural engineers, and wider design teams to help shape safe, efficient, and innovative building solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of fire engineering projects across a range of sectors.
- Assist in developing fire strategies, including both prescriptive and performance‑based approaches.
- Contribute to design reviews, ensuring fire safety principles are integrated throughout the project lifecycle.
- Carry out fire engineering calculations, including smoke and evacuation modelling (CFD experience beneficial but not essential).
- Assist in specifying fire protection systems such as detection and suppression.
- Attend internal and external design team meetings, representing the fire engineering discipline as required.
- Prepare technical reports and documentation for client and regulatory submissions.
- Support senior and associate engineers in project coordination and delivery.
- Mentor junior colleagues where appropriate and contribute to team knowledge sharing.
Your Skills & Experience
- Higher education qualification in engineering or a fire‑safety‑related discipline.
- Demonstrable experience delivering fire engineering or fire safety designs for UK‑based projects.
- Understanding of UK Building Regulations, guidance documents, and approval processes.
- Experience with fire engineering tools such as smoke modelling, evacuation analysis, or CFD (desirable).
- Ability to communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- A proactive approach to learning, development, and professional progression (working toward Chartership is advantageous).
