Senior Microsoft Security Engineer – Step Up to Architect (Fixed Term Contract)
Location: Manchester (hybrid – 1 day/week on site, Wednesdays)
Fixed Term Contract: Fixed-term to July 2027
Are you a senior Microsoft security engineer who’s already doing design as well as delivery — and ready to step up towards a Security Architect role?
Our client is midway through a major security transformation, moving fully onto the Microsoft Security Stack. We’re looking for someone to become their go-to Microsoft security specialist, owning both the technical design and the hands-on implementation.
What you’ll be doing (genuine 50/50 split)
Architecture & Design (HLD/LLD)
- Designing how they use:
- Microsoft Defender for Endpoint & Servers
- Defender for Identity
- Microsoft Sentinel
- Microsoft 365 security across Exchange Online, Teams and SharePoint
- Shaping the roadmap: what to enable next, how to harden our posture, and how to get the best from the Microsoft stack.
Engineering & Implementation
- Hands-on build, rollout and tuning of:
- Defender for Identity (next major phase)
- Defender for Endpoint/Servers
- Vulnerability Management within Microsoft Defender
- Helping plan and deliver the move to Microsoft 365 email security.
- Working across security and infrastructure teams to fix real problems in both project and live environments.
Who this suits
- A senior (3rd/4th line) Microsoft security engineer who:
- Owns and runs Defender/Sentinel/M365 security today
- Has already been producing HLD/LLD in practice, even if your title isn’t “Architect” yet
- Wants a role where you can design it and build it
Someone who wants:
- A clear step up towards Security Architect on their CV
- A high-impact role on a large Microsoft security programme
- Hybrid working with one collaborative office day per week.
Tech you’ll be around
- Microsoft Defender for Endpoint & Servers, Defender for Identity
- Microsoft Sentinel
- Vulnerability Management in the Microsoft stack
- M365 security (Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint)
- Bonus: Purview, Entra, Intune, NIST / security frameworks.
If you’re interested in using your engineering experience to own both the design and delivery of a Microsoft security stack — and step into a more architectural role — apply or message for a confidential chat.
