Head of Engineering – Beechdean, Tattenhall
Location: Beechdean, Tattenhall (With travel to other locations for business needs)

Role Overview
Reporting into the General Manager, the Head of Engineering is responsible for leading the engineering function across the site, ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and continuous improvement of all manufacturing equipment and infrastructure. This role is critical in supporting high-volume ice cream production, with a particular focus on the optimisation, maintenance, and development of Tetra Pak processing and filling systems.

Core Responsibilities
- To ensure the manufacturing side of the business is in a day-to-day operational state.
- Continual communication on any upgrades on machinery or machine developments
- Ensure any corrective actions required are prioritised and delivered accordingly
- Collaborate with the Technical team on GMP and other food safety and quality processes.
- To make sure PPMs are up to date and on target.
- Liaise with the Product team to ensure physical product specs can and are delivered.
- To ensure that the factory is 100% available to the demands of production.
- Work closely with senior management on continual improvement and project management.
- Overall management of the Engineering team by demonstrating good interpersonal skills and management control.
- Ability to prioritise and focus through short-, medium- and long-term planning
- Ability to learn and train with key suppliers of equipment to ensure optimisation of said equipment.
- Ensure all plant equipment, including pasteurisation, homogenisation, and Tetra Pak filling lines, operates at optimal efficiency
Key Skills & Experience
- Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with Tetra Pak equipment and systems
- Proven record of working within parts and stock management systems
- Reporting and analytical skills to present to Managing Director.
- Experience with pasteurisation, homogenisation, and high-care food production environments
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Experience of leading a team in a people intensive, food manufacturing environment (ideally dairy or ice cream)
- Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with Tetra Pak equipment and systems
- Experience with pasteurisation, homogenisation, and high-care food production environments
- Strong understanding of maintenance systems, reliability engineering, and continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, TPM)
Food Safety, Health & Safety / HR
- Ensure all production activities comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations
- An active member of the onsite Health & Safety Committee ensuring compliance at all times
- Report any Food safety issues immediately to the Managing Director
- Only use machinery as trained and authorised
- Report any Health and Safety issues onsite immediately to the Managing Director
- Ensure due diligence onsite and operate in a respectful way to all members of staff and visitors
Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related discipline)
- Relevant professional qualifications desirable
- Health & Safety qualifications (e.g. IOSH / NEBOSH) advantageous
