The Opportunity

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Senior Structural / Bridge Engineer to join our Consulting Structures team.

Role Overview

The successful candidate will support the Practice Lead on a variety of bridge and civil structure schemes, whilst taking the lead on projects and mentoring engineers and technicians.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team and produce technically sound engineering solutions.
  • Take ownership and lead bridges and civil structures projects from start to finish including:
    • Design development
    • Structural assessments
    • Principal Inspections / Special Inspections
    • Feasibility and other technical reports
  • Prepare and check designs, calculations, drawings and documentation to meet quality, cost and programme criteria.
  • Oversee junior staff and take responsibility for their actions.
  • Contribute to the professional development of junior staff.
  • Liaise with client and supplier representatives at peer level, attend progress meetings and respond to queries.
  • Manage a small, locally based single discipline technical team and deliver workload.
  • Contribute to bid preparation and general work‑winning function.
  • Drive effective health and safety practices within the team.

Candidate Profile

  • Experience and expertise in bridges and/or civil structures, gained in an engineer role or equivalent.
  • Sound understanding of structural engineering principles.
  • Ability to produce or oversee technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements.
  • Ownership for the preparation and checking of deliverables.
  • Knowledge of relevant software (e.g., Midas, LUSAS, Autodesk Structural Bridge Design).
  • Good commercial awareness.
  • Experience in effectively managing HS&W risks.
  • Collaborative, proactive approach to problem solving within a multi‑disciplinary team.
  • Incorporated/Chartered status or an equivalent professional licence.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant subject or equivalent further learning.
