Senior Fire Engineer

AtkinsRéalis Building Design Practice is looking to appoint a Fire Engineer to further develop their career within a forward‑thinking multi‑sector practice. This opportunity will involve working as part of a national practice of design professionals delivering fire engineering design solutions to clients across a wide variety of sectors, including cities & development, commercial, energy, residential and transportation. The role is flexible in location, with the majority of the current Fire Engineering team based in our Derby and London offices, and an ambition to grow teams in the North and South West. Preferred UK locations include Bristol, Epsom, Glasgow, London or Derby.

Your role

• Work in a range of sectors from residential buildings through to rail transportation or new energy facilities.
• Service projects from inception through to delivery in support of fire safety standards.
• Support the delivery of project work within time and cost budgets.
• Keep up to date with regulations and legislation.
• Support the development of fire strategies.
• Carry out site visits.
• Assess fire related risks in projects and work collaboratively to mitigate where possible.
• Review and comment on the quality of fire safety related installations.
• Undertake tenders for new work.
• Prepare reports, take part in design team meetings, and liaise with client representatives as required.

About you

• Engineering degree, preferably in fire engineering or a postgraduate qualification in fire engineering (Applicants with different backgrounds also considered).
• Experience working with a range of fire standards including BS9999, NFPA 130, BS9992, EN45545.
• Fire modelling experience will be beneficial.
• Experience outside of the building sector would be advantageous.
• Able to work towards chartered fire engineer status.
• A flexible approach to the working environment.
• Willingness to travel will be a positive advantage.
• Good commercial awareness.
• Customer focused.
• Ability to collate information and have a clear and structured approach to report writing.

Security clearance

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary, it will be discussed with you at interview. The vetting process is delivered by United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV) and may require candidates to provide proof of residency in the UK of 5 years or longer.
