£36,000-£70,000 FTE per annum (dependent on qualifications and experience)

Full time

Out of Hours: four/five night shifts per month plus 1 in 4 Saturday day shifts

6 weeks paid annual leave (including Bank Holidays)

About the Practice

We are a medium‑size, 100% small animal practice based in Henley, with a main surgery that includes 6 consulting rooms, two theatres, a dental suite, separate dog and cat wards, and isolation facilities. We invest in advanced equipment, including ultrasounds and endoscopy, and maintain a busy in‑house laboratory.

Role Overview

The role involves all aspects of small animal first‑opinion practice. In a typical week you will spend time consulting clients and animals, working the hospital rota (day patients and in‑patients), and performing surgery. You will be supported by a highly experienced team of vets, nurses and lay staff, with direct access to senior colleagues for case discussion and support.

Additionally, you will join the shared out‑of‑hours rota, which requires four to five night shifts per month plus one Saturday day shift every four weeks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Consulting clients and small animal patients in first‑opinion practice.
  • Performing general and surgical procedures on day and in‑patients.
  • Participating in ward rounds and clinical discussions.
  • Contributing to out‑of‑hours service and shift coverage.
  • Engaging in continuous professional development and maintaining professional certifications.

Requirements

  • Qualified veterinary doctor (RLS, RCVS, VDS, or equivalent).
  • Enthusiastic, motivated, sociable, and proactive.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work within a team.
  • Commitment to outstanding veterinary care for patients and clients.
  • Special interest or certificate in a veterinary specialty is desirable but not essential.
  • Experience is an advantage but new graduates are also welcome.
