Assistant Head Person

Archie Watson Racing is seeking a motivated Assistant Head Person to join the professional and friendly team at our yard in Upper Lambourn. This is an excellent opportunity for a capable and enthusiastic individual to play a key role within the team, assisting the Head Groom and Assistant Trainer in the day‑to‑day running of the yard.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Groom and Assistant Trainer with the smooth running of the yard
• Oversee the yard at weekends on a rota basis
• Daily check and monitor horses
• Feed and provide general horse care
• Assist vets, providing routine medical care and treatments
• Ride (if requested, not essential)

Requirements

• Previous experience working in a racing yard
• Confident and capable
• Strong horsemanship and attention to detail
• Reliable, organised and able to take responsibility
• Good team player with a positive attitude

Working Pattern & Benefits

• Working 1 in 2 weekends with an afternoon off each week
• Good rate of pay
• Share of pool money
