Recruitment Consultant – In-House Legal (Bristol)
JMC Legal Recruitment
A Different Kind of Recruitment Opportunity
Most recruitment roles ask you to build a desk from scratch. This one doesn’t.
At JMC Legal Recruitment, our In-House Legal division has reached the point where demand is outstripping capacity. We are working on a growing number of retained and exclusive mandates, advising organisations on some of their most important legal hires, and we are now looking to appoint a Recruitment Consultant to join and help scale what is already a high-performing desk.
This is not an entry-level rebuild.
It is an opportunity to step into momentum, learn the in-house legal market properly, and develop into a consultant operating at the more strategic end of recruitment.
The Market You Will Be Working In
The in-house legal market has undergone significant expansion over the past decade.
Organisations are increasingly building internal legal capability, with senior hires such as General Counsel and Heads of Legal playing a central role in commercial decision-making. As a result, recruitment in this space has become more consultative, more strategic, and typically higher value.
At JMC, we are positioned at this end of the market.
Our work spans:
- Senior in-house appointments (Head of Legal, General Counsel)
- Growth hires for established legal teams
- Mandates across both private sector and public bodies
Recent and current instructions include offer such a range and diversity across different industry sectors, work with international energy businesses, finance companies, sports businesses, technology, lifestyle, UK police forces, and senior-level appointments within government institutions.
The Opportunity
You will join our Head of In-House and become part of a desk that is:
- Already generating consistent, high-quality work
- Handling mandates typically valued at £20,000+ fees – with fee potential for fee’s in excess of £50,000
- Supported by strong inbound demand (including leading search engine positioning)
- Our reputation and brand is market leading, we have a strong voice in the industry, we write and speak on behalf of the Law Society on recruitment matters, and regularly comments on industry matters in the press.
- Working with established and repeat client relationships
From the outset, your focus will be on delivery, learning the market, and developing your ability to operate at a higher level of recruitment, rather than building activity from a standing start.
Training and Development
This role offers direct exposure to experienced recruiters operating at the top end of the legal market.
You will receive ongoing support and mentoring from:
- CEO, Jason Connolly, who has built a £1m+ billing track record specialising in senior and partner-level appointments
- The Head of In-House, who has previously built and run his own recruitment business and now leads this division
- The focus is not simply on activity, but on developing:
- Market understanding
- Commercial judgement
- The ability to manage high-value client relationships
