Senior Backend Engineer

Location: London, Hybrid (2 Days Onsite)

Salary: £90,000 – £105,000 + Competitive bonus



We're working with a rapidly growing tech for good company that is transforming how data, automation, and smart integrations shape the future of digital infrastructure. Their platform optimises real-time operations, connecting users with seamless, intelligent technology solutions.


They are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer with deep expertise in JVM technologies to help scale and enhance their high-performance systems. There will be a requirement to use Kotlin moving forwards! This is an opportunity to work with modern architecture, collaborating with top-tier engineers in a fast-moving, product-focused environment.


Responsibilities

  • Play a key role in shaping and maintaining the backend infrastructure, built on a modern JVM stack
  • Write clean, well-tested, production-ready code that the team can rely on
  • Bring fresh ideas to the table — challenging existing approaches and proposing better solutions where you see them
  • Work closely with Product and Engineering teams to break down complex problems and deliver impactful features
  • Take ownership of your own development while helping to raise the bar for those around you
  • Get involved in hiring — helping to assess and attract strong technical talent to the team
  • Stay curious about the wider engineering landscape and bring relevant insights back to the team


Key Requirements

  • Strong commercial experience in Kotlin or JVM technologies for backend development
  • Confidence working with Spring Boot or Kotlin or Java to build robust microservices
  • A passion for creating API-first products
  • Ability to write efficient, secure, well-documented, and clean code
  • Familiar with Agile principles and best practices such as peer code review and pair programming
  • Clear understanding of fundamental computer science and software engineering concepts (e.g. design patterns, test-first design, SOLID principles)


Desirable

  • Familiarity with both Monolithic and Microservices-based systems
  • A background in a product-led environment where engineering and business goals are closely aligned
  • Hands-on exposure to AWS or comparable cloud platforms
  • A genuine enthusiasm for working with Kotlin and a desire to grow expertise in it moving forwards
