Job Title: Principal Engineer (Design)

Location: North West England (office-based with site visits as required)

Overview

An opportunity has arisen for a Principal Engineer to join a multidisciplinary engineering team delivering design solutions across major infrastructure projects. The role focuses on providing safe, practical, and cost-effective designs while leading a team and supporting project delivery across all design phases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop a team of engineers
  • Deliver technical drawings and reports for detailed design of linear infrastructure projects (e.g. pipelines, HV cable routes)
  • Lead Pre-FEED, FEED, and detailed design stages
  • Produce constructability reports and lead design risk assessments
  • Review and approve technical documentation
  • Coordinate design activities and support project reporting
  • Provide technical input into tenders and support bid submissions
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders and attend project meetings
  • Undertake site visits where required

Requirements

  • Degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering
  • Chartered Engineer status (or working towards)
  • Experience in design and construction of linear infrastructure projects
  • Knowledge of relevant UK and international standards for pipelines and utilities
  • Strong technical reporting and communication skills
  • Experience leading teams and managing workloads

Desirable

  • Experience with trenchless crossing techniques (e.g. HDD, microtunnelling, auger boring)
  • Familiarity with geospatial software (e.g. GIS tools)
  • Understanding of environmental and regulatory constraints in the UK
  • Experience supporting FEED studies and early-stage project development
